Dear Peace Poets and Writers,

It’s time to sign up for the 2024 peace poetry post card event.

WORLD PEACE POETRY POSTCARD MONTH is February 1st to 29th of the new year 2024. We hope you will join and invite others everywhere to sign up today! The deadline to sign-up is Monday, January 22, 2024.

You will be signing-up to exchange peace poetry postcards with 29 poets (fledgling or accomplished) and discover what you have to share about peace.

It’s a simple practice where you write and mail daily thoughts about peace as short poems to on 1 fresh postcard a day, until all 29 people have been sent a card with a separate expression of peace. After you sign up and your group is full you will receive a WPP list (which I compile and send to you) as soon as the list completes (on or before January 28th.

How to get on a list:

Send an e-mail to worldpeacepoets@gmail.com with your name, street address (or P.O. Box), City, ZIP or postal code, and country from now until January 22nd Then I will put your information on the list and send your list to you on or before January 28th.

When you get your group list:

Find your name on the list and start with the person immediately after your name, then go through the list to the bottom and back to the top until you are back at your name. You can also look for the international addresses on your list, as that mail takes at least a week and sometimes longer, so it’s good to get an earlier start on those cards.

These are the instructions: to send an original expression about peace on a postcard each day during the month to names on your list and to start with the person whose name comes after yours. Your list of names and addresses will be emailed to you when your group has all of its members.

Our list grows a little each year so please pass this information along to others you might think will be interested. Please direct people to the e-mail worldpeacepoets@gmail.com.

This practice intersects with our human development at every level. Cards explore peace in all the ways, how it intersects with our planet’s climate crisis, as counterpoint to the loss of community and optimism due to the Covid pandemic, current national and international affairs, and as a path to justice. As we reach out to each other on the topic of peace, we are taking time to create peace, first as we imagine it, then as it shows up on the postcard. Many of you have share with me and C.J. how you have found the daily practice of writing and sending out a peace postcard healing and reassuring.

How to get on the list: Before 1/22/2023, send your Name, your Street address (or P.O. Box), city, country and Zip Code via e-mail to worldpeacepoets@gmail.com When C.J. Prince and I (Carla Shafer) receive it, I’ll make a list of groups of 29 people to a group. I will e-mail your list as soon as a is group formed. Once you receive you list you will stay in your group. If there is a short list, I’ll ask for volunteers to join a second list. You will be on both. Also, that makes room for latecomers.

Plan ahead: A World Peace Poets Read-in will be held on Zoom, Saturday, April 27, 2024 on Zoom, when you can read a few favorite poems you wrote on peace during the month. It will begin at 4 PM Pacific time. Sign-up will occur in early April.
